ART-TISM

Safe Spaces for Special Needs Families to Discover Their Child’s Gifts

ART-TISM creates sensory-friendly, culturally affirming spaces where children of all abilities—and their caregivers—can create, learn, and connect without stigma. Rooted in inclusive arts, advocacy, and community care, our work centers families who are often unintentionally excluded from traditional arts, educational, and cultural spaces.

Founded by Valene Byrd, inspired by her son Mateo, ART-TISM was born from a simple truth: children don’t need to be fixed—spaces do.

Our programs are trauma-informed, community-embedded, and designed to meet families where they already gather.

What We Do

Sensory-friendly arts experiences

Our Signature Program

The ART-TISM Interactive Art Exhibit is our flagship experience and a cornerstone of our mission.

Now entering its 5th Annual year, this multi-day, immersive exhibit invites children of all abilities to explore interactive art stations designed to support sensory regulation, creative expression, and social connection.

Families move freely through hands-on experiences in a safe, welcoming environment where inclusion is intentional and celebrated.

The exhibit has become a trusted space for families—one where children are seen for their gifts and caregivers feel supported, understood, and connected to community.

Our Impact

Families return year after year, participate across multiple days, and share how rare it is to find inclusive spaces that honor both neurodiversity and cultural identity.
